TRADE CARD - Arbuckle Coffee, NEW YORK CITY - Rhode Island - MAP ©1884:  From Arbuckle's website: "Arbuckles’ Coffee began in the post Civil War Era of the 19th Century. Two brothers, John and Charles Arbuckle, initiated a new concept in the coffee industry; selling roasted coffee in one pound packages. Until that time, coffee was sold green and had to be roasted in a skillet over a fire or in a wood stove. You can imagine the inconsistency of the coffee. One burned bean ruined the whole batch. The Arbuckle Brothers were able to roast a coffee that was of consistently fine quality and the first to be packaged in one pound bags."  This 3" x 5" Trade Card promotes the brand along with the featured pictures  of the Rhode Island, a scene of a woman reading on a Newport Beach, Tennis Racket & Hand Fan and a Steam Engine Locomotive.  The card's reverse card notes the benefits of the brand and why its added costs is worth the differential from other brands.  The card also discusses the other cards is this map series, noting 50 cards including the then-39 US states) and 11 US territories  (Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Indian Territory [Oklahoma], New Mexico, Arizona and Alaska).  Hawaii was not included in the listing.  The card is in good condition, save for some soiling.
